Interesting thought about single men. I wonder if the same rule applies to single women. Many single women seem to be very happy.

Actually I wonder if this rule IS true. Can a man who is lonely and single really be unhappy when he is happily married and no longer lonely?

Christoffer, it probably does not apply dogmatically but there very likely is a strong correlation between happiness before marriage and happiness after marriage.

Stating "How can someone be unhappy when happily married" seems to me like constructing an artificial contradiction and then using that to support an opinion. What about "How can someone be unhappy when unhappily married"? :)

Seems a lot easier don't it?

On the other hand i strongly dislike seing happiness as some simple, easy solution to all the problems in the world as it is often proclaimed by people who usually themselves are "happy by nature". Of course, don't cry if your happy, but try to understand that if someone is sad it's not necessarily something that can easily be solved.

Can we go further on this "lonely man"-thingy...

Let's take a few steps backwards. What about the time when he's still single, maybe he's unhappy BECAUSE he's single?

I think being single is not a reason to be unhappy. I have never faced so much sorrows as when I have been in a relationship. (I do still believe in love.)

I think we can be unhappy when we feel our lives don't make an impact on anything. An easy solution would be to have a girl to love. But look deeper, fellow-men!

I understand you, Linus. I, too, have faced sorrows when I have been in relationships. Still, I believe in love. Interesting. Relationships are not easy to deal with.
